FC United Women Change Shorts Colour From White To Black

FC United of Manchester Women's team have changed the colour of their shorts from white to black, which is a sign of the progress being made in the women’s game.

The move has been made to help players feel more comfortable while on their periods. The decision was made after discussions with the players and coaches to better understand anxieties when players have their period. Wearing white shorts has often been seen as an issue in women’s football and FC United were keen to tackle it.

First Team manager, James Mulvihill said: “This is one of the first things I wanted to change when I became manager in the summer. It's really important that the players feel comfortable when playing football. I'm really pleased that we've been able to make this change so that we can reduce some of the anxieties that the players feel whilst on their period. That way we can focus on winning games of football together as a team."

The club's CEO Natalie Atkinson said: “Without question it is important that we support our women’s team and discuss these topics. It’s our job as the team behind the teams to find every percentage point we can to support our players to perform at their best. It also represents another step forward in our vision for women and girls at the club.”

FC United are on fine form this season and are currently top of the North West Women's Regional Premier League having won six out of six games. The club believes acting on the feedback of players can only help improve the atmosphere and make for a more comfortable and supportive environment for everyone.
