FC United travel to top of the table Fylde

FC United travel to top of the table FyldeFC United travel to top of the table AFC Fylde’s new 6,000 capacity Mill Farm ground for the first time on Saturday afternoon, knowing that a tough task awaits against the high flying Coasters.

The match brings together two of the form teams in the Vanarama National League North. The Reds are unbeaten in six league matches with four wins and two draws whilst our hosts also have four wins but with one draw and one defeat in their last six. The defeat coming on Boxing Day at home to promotion chasing Chorley.

Fylde are currently six points clear at the top of the table and will be looking to maintain their charge towards the Conference National. They have been beaten just twice in the league this season and they have scored four or more on seven different occasions with nine goals coming against Boston United in November. The man to watch out for is undoubtedly the league’s top scorer, Danny Rowe who has netted an incredible 35 times already this season.

As such, FC United may have their work cut out keeping The Coasters at bay and will be grateful to have first choice centre-back Luke Ashworth available before he begins a three match suspension. Ashworth was sent off during the 1-1 draw against Altrincham on New Year’s Day. Other than Sam Sheridan, who has an injured ankle, and Dave Carnell (back) the rest of the Reds are expected to be fit and available for selection.

The two clubs have met eight times before in the last five years and the Reds have a decent record against our wealthy rivals with three wins, one draw, and four defeats. However, Fylde came from behind to win the reverse of this fixture 3-2 at Broadhurst Park in September and will be expecting to do the double over FC United for the first time.

But FC United won’t be fazed. The Reds have caused lots of upsets against highly rated opposition over the last 11 and a half years and they will be hoping for another one tomorrow. Get yourself to that football ground.
