FC United travel to Barwell aiming for first round proper of FA Trophy
FC United will be without Matthew Kay and Matthew Wolfenden tomorrow as we travel to Barwell, aiming for a win to take us into the first round proper of the FA Trophy.
Kay is out with a groin strain whilst Wolfenden serves the final match of his three game ban for the red card he received at Buxton for a rather innocuous looking challenge.
Callum Byrne will be available after shaking off a hamstring strain that kept him out of last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Stourbridge. Manager Karl Marginson was pleased to report the news: "I think Callum has really been starting to get back to his best and control games for us recently, so it’s great that he’ll be back tomorrow."
Margy also indicated that he is set to continue with last week’s man of the match, Frank Van Gils in midfield. He said: "Frank’s been fantastic, I’m really pleased for him. I’ve known him for a good few years due to working with him at Manchester College and I’ve known for a long time what he’s capable of. The time was right for him to get his chance in the first team and he’s taken it."
Margy says that the young Dutchman will cope with the physicality of the Evo-Stik Premier Division, despite his diminutive stature. He added: "Some players in this league will judge a book by its cover, as in Frank’s size. But they will be in for a shock when they see his ability. He will be able to cope though, he grew up in Ardwick from the age of eleven. You have to be able to stand your ground if you grow up in Ardwick."
Whilst the Reds come into the game off the back of a defeat to Stourbridge, our hosts have won their last five matches, including a midweek victory against the very same opponents who defeated us on Saturday. However, United have not been beaten by Barwell in three encounters since we first met eleven months ago with two wins and one draw. Margy is looking forward to taking on the Leicestershire club again tomorrow.
He said: "They’re on a great run of form at the moment and they’re showing much more of an attacking threat. Hopefully, that will benefit us."
