FC United Recruit HerGameToo Ambassadors

The Club is delighted to announce that we have recruited two #HGT Ambassadors, Sophie and Alison.  Over the coming weeks we will be working with Sophie and Alison as to their vision and aims for the campaign.

Welcome to the team Alison and Sophie!  Here is some more information about Sophie and Alison and their vision as ambassadors.

Alison

.

I work for a charity in Trafford. As part of my role I run our walking football sessions, and we have recently linked up with Manchester County FA to set up a ladies walking football session. I have always had an interest in football growing up with a dad and brother that were Manchester United fans.

In 2005 when FC United of Manchester was set up my brother was one of the initial members but sadly passed away in 2006. He was buried in his FC United shirt and that was where my love of FC started.  I took my youngest son to some of the games at Gigg lane and always followed their progress.

When Broadhurst Park was built just down the road from where I live we started going regularly to games. Over the years we have continued this and now go to most home and away games. We have also travelled to Milan, Rimini, Belgium and most recently Valencia for the Fenix Trophy. Having a love of football and being a woman has been challenging at times. Comments made about women and football, being excluded from conversations about football, and derogatory remarks have all had an influence on my desire to change how women fans are viewed.

I am hoping that as a Her Game Too Ambassador for FC, I can ensure that female fans get treated equally, and that I can support other female fans to speak out if they have been treated unfairly. I am proud to be selected to represent the club in fighting against sexism in football and be the #HerGameToo Ambassador

As a #HerGameToo Ambassador I will connect with female FC fans and be a point of contact for any issues that need to be raised with the club. I want to ensure women are not only safe and comfortable at the club, but are welcomed and feel part of the community we have here.

I want the role to be really positive and to be used to make real change for women across the club. I’d love to be an advocate for improvement and in this role I can bridge that gap between suggestions from female fans and resulting action from the club to enable that positive change.

So many forward steps have been taken by the club already this year, from the launch of the new womens shirt for the 23/24 season, to recent free dispenser installed in the accessible toilet in Broadhurst Park to help tackle period poverty. We know that many fans will have fresh, new ideas to improve womens match day experience, and I want to help to put these in place to make every woman’s FC experience as positive as possible.

In addition to work within the club, I will also be making connections with other female football fans in our league and across the football pyramid so we can share ideas and experiences and keep football accessible to everyone.
