FC United ready to host The Bulls of Hereford at Broadhurst Park

FC United ready to host The Bulls of Hereford at Broadhurst ParkSaturday sees the first of two pre-season home fixtures as we welcome Hereford FC to Broadhurst Park.

The game is the second of three in six days for the Reds who are looking to get a run of results to match some good showings on the pitch despite losing twice and drawing one in our first three games of pre-season.

The Reds lock horns with the Bulls a year after we were invited down to the first fixture at the re-opened Edgar Street after the club had established themselves from the ashes of Hereford United less than a year previous.

In front of a bumper crowd of 4,257 on what has gone down as a memorable occasion for both clubs the home team won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Nathan Hughes.

That was a sign of a great season to come for the Bulls who won promotion by winning the Midland Football League Premier Division alongside two trophies in the HFA Challenge Cup and the Polymac Packaging Cup.

The Bulls also had a fantastic run in the FA Vase where they went all the way to final at Wembley in May before losing 4-1 to Morpeth Town in the final.

Off the field the success was consistent with an average crowd of over 2,800 which is testament to the hard work done by those at the club in their inaugural season. Similar to ourselves, they are very well supported on their travels and a decent contingent from Hereford is expected to make the trip to Manchester.

On the pitch, manager Peter Beadle has managed to keep the majority of last season’s playing staff and spoke on the club website about the club’s ambition for the coming season, saying: “We can now really focus on the group and get some proper work done in the friendlies. We know much more about the Southern League than we did the Midland League, and hopefully we’ll be more prepared this year than we were last. It’s going to be a really tough season but we’ve got to be ready for it.???

The club has also started off pre-season in fine form hitting six goals in each of their two games so far against Pegasus Juniors and Lyndey Town.

The coming season they will be in the Southern League South & West and they get their season underway with an away tie to AFC Totton on August 6.

When the two clubs announced the friendly back in May Martin Watson, club secretary at Hereford FC, said: “We’re pleased to make the trip to Broadhurst Park after FC United came to Edgar Street for our first ever home match last July. Their supporters and board were very positive about the day and we are glad to be able to make the return visit after such a historic season for both clubs.???
