FC United of Manchester Partnership Announcement

The Manchester College and FC United of Manchester team up to offer cutting-edge Level 3 Sport course from September 2026.

The Manchester College and FC United of Manchester are proud to announce a new partnership that will give young people in North Manchester and beyond the chance to combine their education with elite football development.

Together, the further education provider and Northern Premier League side are launching an innovative Level 3 Sport and Physical Activity (Sports Coaching) course, starting September 2026, and applications are now being accepted through the College’s website.

This two-year, full-time programme will be delivered in the highquality facilities at FC United of Manchester’s Broadhurst Park Stadium and is designed for 16 to 19-year-olds who are passionate about football and sport and want to progress into semi-professional or professional football, sports coaching, sports science, or further study.

The introduction of the qualification also coincides with the relaunch of the FC United Academy and the course will be led by former Premier League striker and FC United of Manchester player Adam Le Fondre in his role as Head of Football for the Academy.  With more than 600 professional appearances across England, Scotland and Australia, Adam brings elite level experience, a passion for youth development and a strong personal connection to the local community.

The first intake will begin their studies at the start of the 2026/27 academic year and staff at the College and football club are expecting it to be a popular choice amongst applicants seeking expert teaching and football coaching in a performance environment, personalised support, and strong progression outcomes.

Anyone who is interested in the course is being encouraged to register for the Open Event at Broadhurst Park Stadium on Thursday 29 January 2026, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

Applicants will be required to attend an interview at the College’s Openshaw Campus and take part in a trial football session before being offered a place.

Nick Boom, Chair of FC United of Manchester, commented: “The course reflects the shared values of our two organisations: opportunity, community and belief in the potential of young people. We are proud to offer this new programme and relaunch our Academy with The Manchester College, a partner that shares our commitment to North Manchester. Football has the power to inspire, build confidence and open doors - and we want this course and our Academy to be a place where young people can grow, achieve and feel part of something bigger than themselves.”

Barry Atkins, Deputy Principal of the College, added: We’re thrilled to join forces with FC United of Manchester on this exciting new venture. This course offers the perfect blend of education and elite football coaching for young people who want to take their passion to a higher level. Together, we’re creating opportunities that will open doors to careers in sport and make a real difference for the North Manchester community. I can’t wait to see the incredible journeys our students will embark on.”

Entry requirements for Level 3 courses are specified on the College’s website.
