This week sees FC United in the running for two major awards, as the club has been shortlisted in the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards and the Co-operative of the Year Awards.
The club is receiving recognition in these two contrasting awards for its high-profile work over the past 12 months that has highlighted social enterprise and the benefits of a co-operative approach to a national and international audience.
The shortlisting citation for the Co-operative of the Year award said that FC United "actively promotes collectivism and co-operativism to a wide audience and sets new standards for member engagement along the way." The EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards has shortlisted FC United general manager Andy Walsh as a regional finalist for the North area. The judges were particularly impressed with the club’s use of social finance and its success as a high-profile social enterprise making a difference in the sporting arena.
The winners of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards are announced on Tuesday this week in Manchester and the Co-operative of the Year will be unveiled at the Co-op Congress in Birmingham on Friday 26 June.
