FC United continued their 100% start to the season with a 2-0 win against Guiseley at Broadhurst Park on Saturday afternoon – a fourth consecutive victory which sends the Reds to the top of the table with a game in hand.

A penalty from Adam Le Fondre and a second half bullet header from Rudy Misambo separated the two sides.
The Reds came into the game after a great start to the season, with three wins from their first three games, scoring seven and conceding just one in the opening exchanges. Jay Fitzmartin, with three goals in three games, and Le Fondre, with two in three, both came into the game on hot form.
However, it was the visitors, having won two of their opening five games after their fourth place finish last season, who started the game the better of the two sides, putting FC on the back foot.
FC responded to the pressure, and in the 15th minute, the ball came into contact with Oliver Brown’s arm. The referee was clear on his decision - penalty. Le Fondre stepped up, and made no mistake as he sent the keeper off to the left, before slotting the ball into the bottom right corner - and FC took their one goal lead into the interval.
Guiseley started the second half the better of the two sides, however Beesley’s men slowly grew into it, with a free-kick being fired over the bar by Fitzmartin, and a Misambo diving header going close.
And then, it was that man Misambo who doubled the lead for the Reds. Fitzmartin went on a trademark dazzling run, which resulted in a corner for FC.
Fitzmartin’s corner was headed over by defender, but he made no mistake the second time round, firing it towards the back post, where goalscorer Le Fondre headed the ball square – for Misambo’s to head home and double the lead for the home side.
As the game approached the dying embers, FC had one final chance, with substitute Jordan Buckley finding himself one-on-one with Guiseley’s number one – only to put the ball just wide of the post.
The referee blew for fulltime just moments later, with FC earning another three points to take their total to 12 points for the season - and, top of the table.
However, Beesley struck a composed figure post-match, saying that he’s not all that fussed what the table says, before reinforcing the fact that the players must remain focused.
Next up for FC, and it’s a short turnaround, with the Reds travelling to another strong side in Ashton on Monday, before a trip away to Doncaster to face Rossington Main next Saturday. The next chance to see the current league leaders at Broadhurst Park is on Saturday 6th September, when we host Cleethorpes Town.
