FC United and Fusion for Business have announced an exciting three-year partnership which aims to reduce energy costs and generate income for the club.
Fusion For Business (FFB) was founded in 2019 in Durham, inspired by their CEO's experience in the energy sector, where he saw a lack of regulation and trust. Determined to offer a fair and honest approach to energy, they opened their first office in Consett, focused on providing business customers with a stress-free, transparent service, ensuring they weren’t overpaying for this essential need. Despite the challenges of Covid, which made the market more difficult and saw other companies exploiting customers, FFB continued to grow.
Paul Fleckenstein Managing Director at Fusion For Business said; “In 2023, we expanded to Salford Quays, enabling us to help even more businesses and attract new talent. This move also opened the door to exciting partnerships, including an opportunity to work with FC United, where we found shared values in supporting the community. Together, we’re committed to helping the Club and the local area thrive. At FFB, we believe in building partnerships that make a difference for everyone involved.”
Fusion for Business have a wealth of experience of supporting community focused football clubs and rugby teams, including National League South side St. Albans City FC, fellow Northern Premier side Morpeth AFC, Northumberland FA and Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club to name a few.
Paul Haworth, Commercial Manager at FC United said; “When I first met the team at Fusion for Business back in March 2024, I was impressed by their approach and their enthusiasm to help the club and its surrounding communities. Since then, we have been in regular discussions building a solid working relationship, resulting in the signing of a 3-year partnership in September.”
As part of the agreement, Fusion for Business will work closely with FC United on a number of initiatives:
(1) To help the club claim back any non-disclosed commission and costs the club had wrongly incurred.
(2) Assist the club in it’s Energy Management delivering cost and carbon savings
(3) Help the club use its energy more efficiently and creating a Net Zero plan for the club,
(4) Provide financial contributions based on any business to business referrals.
(5) Support the club through sponsorship and advertising.
In 2025, FC United will celebrate 20 years since it formed and 10 years since moving into its own purpose-built football ground in Moston, North Manchester. As a community facility, Broadhurst Park is used every day by local people and hosts a range of activities. It’s floodlit 3G pitch situated outside the stadium is in constant use. FC United’s Men’s, Women’s and Academy Teams train on it, as do professional League Two club Barrow, who use the facility as their training centre. In the evenings over 15 local junior sides train on the 3G Pitch, and junior league matches take place on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Walking football, disability teams and charities also make good use of the facility.
The club’s function room and meeting spaces are also made available for the local community, schools, businesses and other organisations to hire. Functions, parties, dance classes, comedy nights, conferences, meetings and networking events are also accommodated on a weekly basis.
On a matchday, underneath the large terraced area at the St. Mary’s Road End, the space is used as a fans bar where live bands, poets, theatre groups and comedians perform in front of crowds of over 200 people. During the week, the space is transformed into classrooms, for the club’s Academy and local community groups to use.
Paul Haworth added; “As a facility that is used all day, every day, it’s vital we understand our energy usage and look to reduce costs as much as possible. With Fusion for Business by our side, we’ll utilise their expertise and work closely together, continually reviewing our infrastructure to become more energy efficient in the short and long term.”
As FC United will financially benefit from any referrals, should any of our supporters or contacts know of any businesses that would like to speak to Fusion for Business to discuss their energy needs, then please get in touch with Paul Haworth at paul.haworth@fc-utd.net or Gary Sams at gary.sams@fusionforbusiness.co.uk
