FC United aiming for three out of three against Chasetown

Jake Cottrell will face a fitness test as FC United look to continue our 100% start to the season when the Reds entertain Chasetown at Gigg Lane for our first Saturday home match of the season.

Cottrell sustained a bruised shin and ankle during the 6-3 win over North Ferriby on Wednesday night but assistant manager Roy Soule is hopeful that the young midfielder will be passed fit for Saturday’s clash.

Soule will continue deputising for manager Karl Marginson, who is still recovering in hospital from a kidney infection. Soule said: "I’ve been to see Karl and he’s on the mend but I told him he can’t be worrying about football.

"He’s had a serious illness and he needs to get his health back. That’s the most important thing. He shouldn’t think about rushing back either, he needs to make a full recovery and come back firing on all cylinders when he’s better."

Simon Carden is another member of the squad who has been ill recently. The veteran midfielder is unlikely to be in first team action for a few weeks as he recovers from a virus.

The only other concern for United is captain Kyle Jacobs. The fullback suffered a dead leg in our opening victory at Stafford and he is unlikely to be in contention until our midweek trip to Chester at the earliest.

Striker Michael Norton is now available, having completed his three game ban, but the 32 goal a season forward may have to settle for a place on the bench as Ben Deegan has led the line fantastically in Norton’s absence.

FC United versus Chasetown is 3 o’clock this Saturday at Gigg Lane. It’s pay on the gate as usual. Get yourself to that football ground.
