The FC United Board is inviting expressions of interest from members who would be willing to participate in the Club’s election committee.

At the December 2016 AGM, a resolution was passed to the effect that, Rule 29 be amended to include the following clause:

“For a period of 10 days after the closure date for resolutions and members votes, a standing subcommittee of members in conjunction with the Club Secretary and the board member for governance, will meet to consider the consolidation of all motions on a similar theme which if passed would negate each other. In doing so, the committee will seek agreement from all proposer signatories to the relevant motions..."

The resolution was intended to address the type of situation where, for example, we had 3 separate resolutions calling for observers at board meetings. Whilst there appeared to be general consensus amongst the membership for such an initiative, because the respective resolutions called for a different number of observers, the cumulative effect was that they all served to defeat each and none of the resolutions succeeded!

Whilst the December 2016 resolution went on to specify how the committee would operate in practice, it didn’t include details of how such a committee might be formed.

In order to address this, in advance of the forthcoming General Meeting in March, the board is inviting expressions of interest from members who would be willing to participate on such a committee.

It is envisaged that the committee may need to meet bi-annually, ahead of both the AGM and GM, depending of course on whether or not there are any such resolutions that fall to be considered.

We are looking for members who:

- are prepared to act impartially, to support the club’s democratic process
- have good reasoning and analytical skills
- have the ability to focus on attention to detail
- possess good communication skills
- have the ability to broker agreements, where it is possible to do so.

Anyone who is interested in offering their services to such a committee should e-mail Viv Ware, Club & Company Secretary, in the first instance at vivware@fc-utd.co.uk (or by telephoning the office on 0161 769 2005), including their membership number and contact details and outlining briefly why they believe they meet the specification above.

Applications should be submitted by no later than close of business on Thursday 9th February.

Board members with responsibility for governance will then make a selection with a view to arrive at forming a committee of no more than 3-4 members who will work alongside the Club Secretary and a nominated Board Member in carrying out this function.

Full details of the resolution in question can be viewed on the Members Forum here
