This time round, we’re playing the other MUFC, Marske United, a team from the wrong side of the Pennines, and not a film starring Cher and a big-faced boy. Our pre-match act this time is Graceland, a Manchester-based trio who modestly describe themselves as “the best band in Manchester that starts with a G”. Previous holders of this title were Glass Animals, The Great Leap Forward, Grotbags and Grow-Up, so they’re in illustrious company. And now for the bad news. We have two FC stalwarts missing in action for this fixture. The first is the midday Shuttlebus. This usually carefully carries the muffins out of town and into Moston, avoiding speedbumps and potholes. There will still be muffins, but they may be a little shaken up, so be kind. The other loss is the pies. Sadly, Rose, who hand-makes our pies is off over in Blackpool attending the George Formby Society’s Ukulele Festival. We realise these are big shoes to fill, so we’re reaching back into the past and reviving The Carrot Corner Kettle and its Tardis-like supply of hotdogs. This being 2023, however, the hotdogs are now vegan (oooh!), meaning anybody can enjoy them. There will be fried onions to enjoy alongside them. And they will be competitively-priced. (We’ve not yet worked out a price, but the advice is bring along a 50p coin to help with the change). So, the drill is: Don’t get the midday coach. Doors at 13.00 Baz kicks off proceedings at 13.30 Graceland land in your laps at 14.00 The Maelstrom of Doom is triggered at 15.00. See you all there.
