Coming up at Course You Can Malcolm (under the St Mary’s Road End at FC United) this week we have our usual double bill of up-and-coming young comedian and new-to-most musical act.

Our spoken word turn this week is the chance for FC fans to hear in-the-flesh, for the first time, our new manager, Mark Beesley. This will take place on the Caring Stage at One Twenty. Initial questions will be asked by Tim Browning, who will then open it up to the crowd. So, write a question on the back of your hand or on your hanky or something. And not the barm question. Please. I’d normally put a few jokes in here, but I don’t know how sparky ‘Bees’ is. I don’t want to draw his sting.

Following this at approximately two fourteen, we have the return of Sleeping Ducks.

Sleeping Ducks is a Manchester ska band formed by accident in 2019, back after a lengthy hiatus to "make the people dance" (as Liam's barber once said). The band fuses ska with elements of reggae, dub, punk and folk, playing a mix of originals and covers - including some you may not be expecting. Sleeping Ducks last played CYCM during the heady, pre-pandemic days of 2019, preceding a game the reds won 5-0; hopefully that makes them a lucky charm at Broadhurst Park!

They were also the first ever band to go through those Wonka-like gates and play in the courtyard at Joey Holt’s Beer Factory on Empire Street. Their next step is to go into the studio and record an EP. Keep your ears open for that.

Our beers this time round are Simcoe Harlequin from Redwillow Brewery, Two Hoots for Sleeping Ducks and Red Rebel for Mark Beesley. The usual Westwells-adjacent tater ash pies and cheese pies will be available, served at your discretion with freshly-made Colwyn Bay mushy peas. Despite having over a month since the last game she baked for to decide (Basford United, 7 September), our resident Muffinista has still to make up her mind what will be served up in the Tea Time Assorted Biscuits tin. Join the queue.

Baz will say a few words at around 13.15, Bees will be (gently) grilled at 13.20 and Sleeping Ducks will raise the dead at around 14.14, maybe earlier. Don’t be shy. Come 15.00, it’s a Brave New World.
