So, begin again, Krapp. Twenty seasons for FC and hours of relentless rock and roll, comedy, folk, Americana, belly-dancing, harp-worrying, ska, soul, punk, rap, poetry and conch-blowing for Course You Can Malcolm. If you’ve not been down and taken a peek before, please get down early this Saturday. Be here at one if you want the fullest experience.
Our opening turn this season is Loll, an alternative spoken word artist hailing from Manchester. She is known for her wordplay and her ability to talk on any issue with ease. Being a barber and speaking to people all day in work you’d think she would want a break but no give her the mic and she’s off. She covers subjects such as sexual assault, mental health issues, troubles dating, being a woman, politics and she somehow laces them all with humour. You can find out more at https://www.instagram.com/loll.thepoet/
Loll’s set will begin at approximately 13.50. (Ten to two for the non-nautical set).
Our band this week are Easter, a band who have definitely heard Marquee Moon. They’ve also just issued their fourth LP, Facsimile of a Dream. Spurred along by singer/songwriter/guitarist Tom Long with a rotating cast of Manc-underground shredders, they’re a formidable live act who’ve toured the UK repeatedly. Easter’s very bendy binoculars are fixed on both Glasgow and the USA, taking in the fuzzy indie-rock of Dinosaur Jr and Guided By Voices alongside the tutored-indie of Teenage Fanclub.
We’re really pleased that they’ve agreed to play for us and hope you can get down there for them. Find out more at https://easterbanduk.bandcamp.com.
Foodwise, we’re really, really chuffed to be able to bring you Westwells-style pies again this season. So, it’ll be tater hash or cheese for you Moston-based gourmands, as well as the promise of Colwyn Bay-sourced (sauced?) mushy peas.
Our beers this time round are Spyglass from Neighbourhood, based in Stockportish; a small and upcoming brewer https://www.neighbourhoodbrewco.com/store. Our Joey Holtses crowd-pleasers are Red Rebel and Attic - Citra/Centennial. Red Bank in the area.
Muffins. Oh, nearly forgot the muffins. Second coming. Like Christopher Eccleston. Easter-themed. ????
So, it all kicks off at around one o’clock. Get here early enough and you can overfill the jukebox with Northern Soul bangers. Get a pie and a pint and peas. Settle down. Loll will be on around 13.50 and Easter around 14.30. And glueing it all together in his usual style will be our superstar compere, Baz.
