CYCM Preview: Hyde United

So we're taking the punt that enough of you will want to join us pre-match on Saturday (there's nowt else on is there??) that our band The Zangwills will be glad they've made the effort to come and play for us.  Jake Vickers, Ed Dowling and Sam Davies met at sixth form college in Northwich and The Zangwills line-up was completed by drummer Adam Spence from Chester in May 2017.  They released their debut single New Heights in December 2017 and have released music steadily since including two EPs It’s Really Up to You and In Amongst the Glitter.  They have played national headlines dates as far apart as Edinburgh and Portsmouth, and they have supported artists as diverse as Yungblud and The Charlatans. They have a gig coming up at The Academy on 4 February, and tickets for that are available at https://www.manchesteracademy.net/order/tickets/13364764/the-zangwills-manchester-club-academy-2023-02-04-19-00-00

Several music journalists and photographers were challenged to suggest whose fans they might appeal to. A consensus was reached that ‘early Arctic Monkeys’ would be a good fit. Luckily, the band does cite the Arctics amongst their influences, along with The Cure, Pearl Jam, The Smiths and The Strokes. Though the question can still cause a lively debate. And there's nothing Malcolmses likes more than a lively debate.  Find out more at https://thezangwills.com.

The Zangwills come at the very bottom of the list of bands who have kindly played at CYCM (their previous gig with us was in April 2019) but that's only because they start with a Z.  The Course You Can Malcolm Instagram account @malcolmses is going full-on conspiracy theory about their curious name, linking it amongst other Zs to the Cloudwater guest beer on Saturday, Zappa In Your Heart. Frankly the only way to unravel the mystery is going to be to head our way on Saturday from about 1.30pm.

We've cut down on the tater ash/cheese pie order for Saturday so if you want your fix please get there early.  I don't think it's possible for Stu from the Bay to make less than 11 gallons of mushy peas so those will still be available. And the muffins are date and ale flavour, so you can eat one alongside your pint of Zappa and still look on trend.

While I'm on the topic of food, many thanks to all who have contributed to the tater ash fund already this season.  Thanks to some really generous donations we have not put a call out for a while, but the purse is inevitably getting emptier so I will happily be accpeting tater ash tenners on Saturday or indeed any other day. We have already raised over £1,000 for club funds this season from the sale of food and books.

Hope to see you uner the SMRE pre-match on Sat. Live music followed by live football, what could be finer?
