CYCM Preview: Gainsborough Trinity

Say it quietly, as it seems that if you say it at any level above quietly the game gets called off, but there’s another in the ongoing, stuttering into 2024 phenomenon that is Course You Can Malcolm this Saturday. Of course, it’s not without its hiccups or hurdles. There will be no muffins. Let that sink in. There will be no muffins, as our resident Muffin Maker is off sunning herself in The Canary Isles. That’s the bad news. The good news is that we have a brace of outstanding acts this week. First-up, we have the eternally patient Precious Metals. “I’ve heard of them!”, you exclaim. Of course you have. They were lined up to play before the ghost-friendly against Stalybridge Celtic the other week. The non-match that finally proved Broadhurst Park is built on top of a graveyard full of the cutest ever sporting mascots, such was the level of accursedness. And let’s not even mention M*tl*ck away. Let’s say it again. One more time! Our band this week is Precious Metals from Sheffield. They’ll be bringing their heavy surf pop sounds to the Caring Stage at 14.15. They have material available on Bandcamp https://preciousmetalheads.bandcamp.com ... etology-ep and maybe they’ll bring along something physical. Before Precious Metals, in the slot usually filled by a poet, magician, community theatre, story-tellers, we have another fantastic comedian. This time it’s Jack Kelly. Jack is a preview writer’s dream as he tells us: “Jack Kelly has read hundreds of other comedians’ bios and thinks he’s cracked it. It must be written in third person and should sell you his achievements. Jack was runner up in the prestigious Store’s Favourite Colleague Award when he worked for Sainsbury’s, narrowly beaten by Dennis on checkouts. The back of Jack’s head also once appeared on Channel 5, but this was an uncredited appearance, despite his Mum repeatedly sharing it on Facebook. He’s also written for BBC Radio 4, is a regular host for the award-winning The Laughięnda Comedy Club, and was a finalist for Greater Manchester Fringe Comedian Of The Year. But nobody likes a show off.” In between the acts Sarah Collins from MMU’s Manchester Fashion Institute will be sharing how FC Fans can be involved in her research into co-creating a fan-designed shirt. For clarity, check out her Insta: @identi_kit  So, the menu is: 13.00 bar opens. 13.30 Baz opens up. 13.40 Jack Kelly 14.00 Sarah 14.15 Precious Metals
