It’s genuinely great to be playing BPA again and to celebrate, we’ve got another CYCM, but this time with added entertainment value as we have two turns. The first is Keith’s Brother, a spoken word performer and red who has been published in UWS and Deepest Red. He’s also been on the radio, but that was Piccadilly 1152, and his voice might have broken since then. Get down early for him.
Our band this week is Fill the Blank, a young band from Bolton who have most recently been seen playing in that town’s emerging Right to Roam festival with the likes of A Certain Ratio, Tom Hingley (from The Rainkings) and almost-were CYCM brethren, The K’s. We’ll be filling in more detail on both acts with extensive, career-spanning interviews on the CYCM Instagram feed.
There will be the usual (I say usual, but to taste them is to taste pure Heaven) tater ash and cheese pies and pys stwnsh. That’s Welsh for mushy peas, as that’s where they come from each match. Is there a side dish in Non League Football with a worse carbon footprint than those peas? Answers to footyscran@twixter.com . The muffins this week may well be pear and ginger. They were meant to be some kind of plum, but the only wild plum tree in Salford had its bounty lifted before our muffin-maker got down there.
Our cask beers this week are ‘pale, New England, hazy’ Moral Panic from Twisted Wheel in Miles Standish, Proud, which was apparently inspired by “the rise of two working class youth subcultures, Mods and Rockers and the media’s exaggerated reporting of the Brighton riots” (I’m not making this up) and Chorlton Pale, which was inspired by “that bit in Blue Velvet where Jeffrey finds the dismembered ear” (I am making this up).
We’re starting earlier than we have been so far this season, but not so early that you have to make excuses to leave the house. Like 13.45 for Baz, 13.50 for Keith’s Brother and 14.15 for Fill the Blank. Set your alarms.
