CYCM Preview: Barnoldswick Town

We are total optimists here at CYCM. So much so that we’ve put in a full order for pies* on a weekend when there’s a rail strike and we’re playing a The Emirates FA Cup tie against a team from a place that has one foot in Lancashire and the other paying rent in t’t Yorkshire. We’re also fully-fledged dreamers and advocates of the arts, which means this week we have Malandra Jacks making the long journey from Moston onto the Caring Stage to bring us a taste of their brand new show, Census.

Having been premiered just down the road at the Grandpa Simpson Memorial Hall, the show has particular local resonance and input. And we’re really proud to be able to give you this snifter ahead of it transferring to four nights at the Contact theatre right down the student end of Oxford Road.

All of our MCs are away this weekend, which will mean somebody new will be introducing the turn. Volunteers are more than welcome, but there may be a quick audition process taking profanities a minute into account.

So, doors at one, when the bar opens.

Pies, peas and a smorgasbord of sauces are also available at that point. (Probably earlier if you’re really keen). There will also be muffins, but we’re not able to tell you which allotment Lynette has been ‘taxing’ this week as she’s been in meetings all day. (Which is not a great excuse when you retired a year ago).

Random tunes will be played from a random mobile phone. (Requests welcome ahead of the ‘do’).

MC TBC MC (IT COULD BE YOU !!) whips us all up into a frenzy of Theatre! Theatre! Theatre! giddiness.

Two Pee Em ish, Malandra Jacks follow in the footsteps of, amongst others, John Henshaw, Maxine Peake, our very own James Quinn and that American who delivered a very, very niche, but probably spot on political monologue on New Year’s Day back at Gigg Lane.

Fourteen fifty five all out onto the terraces for what promises to be a rip-roaring The Emirates FA Cup tie (don’t forget to bring money or an electronic means of payment or you aren’t getting in) against Michael Palin’s Barnoldswick United.

*Pre-orders can be taken through the CYCM Twitter and Instagram accounts. Carry-outs are also available but, for post-match supping reasons, it might be better if you supplied your own peas.
