FC United of Manchester FC United of Manchester FC United of Manchester Badge FC United of Manchester Pitch In

CYCM Preview: Bamber Bridge

This whole naming rights thing hasn't gone to our heads, honestly, the rumours of assorted Malcolmses types demanding free pizza at one in the morning in town this week are grossly exaggerated...  We just potter quietly on, and the Malcolmses Instagram has this to say about Saturday:

It’s a big welcome back for one of our favourite bands this week, as Redeemers join us on the Caring Stage for a half-hour set of big beat sounds. The band first played for us on 4 December 2021. We would say they played pre-match, but there wasn’t a game that day as the planned fixture against Whitby Town FC didn’t happen due to that rarest of phenomena, Goths on the pitch. The band, undaunted, played on. You can see their set that day in Huw’s CYCM archive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yylR3Ce5tg. And find out more about them at https://redeemersband.co.uk/.

This time round, we’re facing Bamber Bridge, so the worst we can expect is an irate tailor brandishing Reno’s unpaid bill for sewing that FC badge on his blazer.

The fun starts at The CYCM Megadome at 1pm. On your way in, don’t be distracted by any fake humbugs out there, ignore the siren song of Newtown (one for the Great-Grandparents there), just get yourself to that football ground as THE PIES ARE BACK. Also the peas.

If you’re off the midday coach, join the pie/pea queue outside. If you get the one o'clock coach, join the pea/pie queue inside. BUT YOU MAY BE TOO LATE.

Either queue can enjoy one of the three short-run ales we have this week, Aze, from First Chop, which I have been informed is a hazy pale and a couple of offerings from Holtses which I can’t tell you about yet as the dog ate my memo, but expect draught award-winning Two Hoots. Either way, they’ll be smashing as always.

Baz will, as he does, kick off proceedings with a topical running down of the week’s political super-villains around about 2pm. Plenty to choose from this week. Incidentally, we can bring Baz forward to 1.30 if there are any poets or acoustic acts out there who would like to do 15 minutes?

2.15 and it’s the main event, with Redeemers blasting the roof off of CYCM and consequently the floor of the SMRE, so hold onto your pints. And also your muffins - which this week are due to be specially crafted on an Easter theme.

3pm and it’s Into The Giddy as we face the prospect of winning back-to-back Saturday home games for the first time since Boris Johnson was Prime Minister*.

*This might not be true.
