Course You Can Malcolm: Saturday 22nd October

First Chop Tap Takeover

Course You Can Malcolm is always exciting – Will the band's drummer be able to get the day off work? Will Stu from the Bay make it through motorway traffic from North Wales with the mushy peas? Will the ‘blackout blind’ stay up? – but this coming Saturday ahead of the Lancaster game is most certainly a case of the collective giddyometer rising.  We’ve not only a very special band occasion lined up, we’ve also got our very first Meet the Brewer session.

Our band are Manchester electronica outfit Narcissus.  We’d be pleased to see them anyway but we’re particularly honoured that they wanted to come this Saturday to launch their long-awaited debut album a sense of place, which comes out this Friday, 21 October. You can pre-order it  from https://musicglue.com/42srecords/ on limited signed white vinyl and very limited cd with bonus tracks. And you can find out more about Narcissus at https://en-gb.facebook.com/narcissushq/. We are especially keen to meet band member Ben who said in an interview last year that the first track he played constantly was Glory Glory Man United on 7″. Though we’re suspecting this wasn’t a lasting influence on his music.

We are also hugely made up to welcome First Chop from Salford who are bringing four guest beers to the SMRE bar plus giving us a Meet the Brewer talk.  We’ll all be able to sup the following:

MCR 4.4% MANCHESTER BITTER

DDH SIMCOE|MOSAIC 4% HAZY PALE

POD 4.2% VANILLA STOUT

First Chop

With this on deck:

RED 4.6% MODERN RED ALE

These all sound ideal to have alongside an Openshaw tater ash or cheese pie, with optional-but-why-wouldn’t-you? mushy peas from the pea urn. It’s definitely a day for getting to the ground early…

Timings:

1.40 Baz kicks things off – or just kicks off.  If Liz Truss thought she’d had a bad week so far…

1.45 Meet the Brewer

2.15 Narcissus
