CYCM, FC United’s club night in the afternoon, returns on Saturday ahead of our FA Cup qualifier against Curzon Ashton. As Malcolmses’ lovingly restored Instagram account puts it: Ventrelles are a Manchester-based quartet headed by Phil Knox, fusing the styles of 80s guitar groups such as Pale Fountains and Echo and the Bunnymen and sometimes darker tinged edges of The Chameleons and The Jesus and Mary Chain, with a punchy delivery, sun-soaked guitars, energetic rhythms, life-affirming vocals and soulful bass lines. Speaking of punchy, Angry Bear will be prowling the Malcolmses’ stage on Saturday before Ventrelles’ set. If you’re up for a dose of mither poetry, he’ll be putting the clobber into terrace clobber—so remember to get your mam to fasten some snide Stone Island patches to your favourite jumper before you head out.

There’ll be no tater ‘ash or cheese pies this week, as Rose is off on her holidays, while our muffin maker is still away on her Grand Tour. Apparently, her whooping woke half a Zagreb hotel when Callum Gribbin’s free-kick hit the back of the net on Tuesday night ...

All is not lost on the sustenance front though. We’ll be sampling three different guest beers, from three different breweries, in three different styles: Holts’ IPA, Blackjack’s best bitter and a pale ale from Red Willow.
