A new play by MaD Theatre Company inspired by the formation and development of FC United of Manchester.
Marilyn is looking for love but the fellas she’s met online have been a bit of a washout. However, one night after being stood up in a Curry House she earwigs the conversation on the next table. Some blokes are thinking about setting up a new football club which doesn’t interest Marilyn but she thinks the bespectacled silver fox munching on his mutton vindaloo might be her next conquest! Little did she know that this bunch was to transform the future of fan owned football clubs and she was whisked along for the ride! Over the next ten years Marilyn along with her sick mother, best mate Gladys, wanna be WAG daughters and ASBO’d sons go on a roller coaster journey featuring the highs and lows, the victories’ and defeats of FC United, culminating with the building of a new ground in Moston, right next door to Marilyn’s flat!
The MaD Theatre Company would like to invite you the audience to recreate the famous FC United atmosphere into the theatre. So bring your flags and your scarves, and warm up those tonsils and sing along to the best of FC’s songbook, altogether now ‘I am an FC fan, I am Mancunian …’
Conceived In A Curry House is a project funded by Forever Manchester and features supporters of FC United and members of the North Manchester Community.
Donations from the performances will go to the FC United Development Fund.
