FC United of Manchester can confirm that Sam Irvine has stepped down from his role as Women’s Team Manager due to work and personal reasons, leaving the club following today’s match against Bury FC Women.

Sam joined us just under a season ago, taking on the team at a difficult time. Despite a challenging season, Sam showed real dedication — balancing the demands of managing the team while juggling work, a young family, and everything in between. He was determined to see out the league campaign, and we’re grateful for the commitment he’s shown.

Reflecting on his time at the club, Sam said:
"It’s been a tough season, but I’m proud to have had the chance to lead this group of players. I want to thank everyone at the club for their support, and I’ll be following the team’s progress closely. I know there are brighter days ahead."

Simon Preston, Football Board Director, added:
"Sam stepped in when the team needed stability, and we appreciate everything he’s done. Managing a team at this level is a huge commitment, and we fully understand his decision to step back. We wish him and his family all the best for the future."

Looking ahead, Seb Bacon and Elsie Baxter, supported by Zak Grundy, will lead the team in our upcoming cup game against Ellesmere Port.

The club will now begin the process of recruiting a new Women’s Team Manager, and we’ll provide an update in due course.
