It's been a remarkable career for Alfie, and he reached yet another milestone as he recorded his 300th career goal when slotting home the opener against Ilkeston Town at Broadhurst Park on Saturday.
A product of Stockport County's Academy, he made his senior debut at Edgeley Park in 2004, going on to score 20 goals over three seasons. A move to Rochdale in 2006 saw him net 38 goals, before making the move across the Pennines to Rotherham United. A real purple patch ensued, as he went on to score a remarkable 58 goals in 105 appearences, before he was signed by Reading in 2011.
A dozen goals in his first season with the Royals played a big part in seeing them promoted to the Premier League. His goals per minute ratio of 124.5 minutes per goal in the Premier League during that following season puts him in rarified company, amongst the likes of Erling Haaland, Thierry Henry and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
After spells with Cardiff City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bolton Wanderers, he made the big move to Australia in 2018, joining A-League side Sydney FC. In four full seasons with the Sky Blues, he finished as their top scorer in each of those seasons, with his 73 goals in all competitions playing a big part in them winning two Australian championships. During his time with Sydney, he also had a loan spell with Mumbai City, with his 11 goals in 20 league appearances powering them to an Indian Super League title, along with the ISL Cup.
Alfie made the move back to the UK in 2023, and after a season north of the border with Hibernian, he settled back in Manchester in 2024. His lifelong friendship with captain Charlie Ennis saw him join us at Broadhurst Park for pre-season training last summer, before going on to sign with the club for the 2024-25 season. After getting off to a perfect start with the winning goal on the opening day of the season against Morpeth Town, he went on to bag 17 goals and pick up a raft of trophies at the club's end of season awards. Having re-signed for 2025-26, he again scored on opening day against Leek Town, and currently sits on eight goals for the season.
Everyone at Broadhurst Park would like to congratulate Alfie on this latest milestone, and we're proud to have been a small part of such a remarkable career.
