Academy team travel to Buxton for top of the table clash

Our Under-19s Academy team travel to Buxton on Wednesday the 7th February for a top of the table clash against the Buxton Academy. Joe Slack provides this preview… 

At the halfway point of the season, the young Reds sit at the top of the National League U19 Alliance table on 29 points with second placed Buxton three points below them. The Reds are enjoying an impressive unbeaten streak this season with nine wins and two draws. FC also recently welcomed Buxton to Broadhurst Park for a league cup game and won 2-0 in January, with goals coming from Bob Jammeh (67’) and Trevor Okeigbem (77’).

Academy star Bob Jammeh made his first start for the first team on Saturday 3rd February at Broadhurst Park against Gainsborough Trinity. He has also made several appearances for the senior team coming on from the bench and has certainly given impressive displays. Everyone at the club is extremely proud of him and his achievements so far.

In their last game, the young Reds secured three points with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Liversedge. Alex Canning scored the first from the penalty spot, Alfie Henstock added the second and Jayden Wilson the third which capped a fine team performance and the FC undefeated streak continued.

The Academy team has also progressed to the quarterfinals of the National League Alliance U19s Cup following that previously mentioned 2-0 win against Buxton thanks to an amazing performance from specifically Jammeh, Billy Turner, and Elliot Wilkinson. Turner made an impressive penalty save, and man of the match was awarded to Wilkinson.

A interesting fact about the Buxton Silverlands ground is that it is the highest football ground above sea level in England at 1,000 feet and has a capacity of 5,200.
