A weird game of football

That was Margy’s reaction when he was asked to comment on Sunday’s match against Matlock Town.

He wanted to repeat some of Mark Atkins’ (Matlock manager) comments made after the match. Mark praised FC’s fans, saying that players would walk and pay money to play in front of them. He continued, "You’ve lost 5-1 and they’ve still applauded you off!" Margy added: "That’s a credit to the fantastic support that you give."

On the match Margy said: "Jerome’s sending off played a massive part and the injury to their keeper also played a big part. We were right in the ascendancy, ripping them to bits but the delay affected us. We wanted the players to continue in the same way after the equaliser - go for the win, rather than go to 4-4-1.

"Indeed, their second goal resulted from a break down of one of our attacks. And again, like against Ashton, the luck was against us - all the breaks fell Matlock’s way, even down to Steve Torpey getting injured as a sub when he was playing well. Then, pressing for a second equaliser, we conceded some cheap goals. That’s one thing we’ll be working on in training."

Margy then gave an update on the recently injured players. Steve Torpey’s groin injury is still being assessed, but he could be out for some time. Chris Ovington returned yesterday to the team and Richard Battersby is now fine. Ben Deegan needs to do some training to see how he reacts, but could be in contention after the weekend. Finally, Colin Little’s 70 minutes yesterday will help with his overall match fitness.
