On Saturday we hosted a private event at the ground, booked as part of a facility hire. The event involved none other than Eric Cantona, who spent several hours with us.
Eric was warm, curious and incredibly supportive of what we stand for. He took a real interest in the club, spending time with us to learn more about our journey, our values and the power of doing football differently. It’s fair to say he got it.
We’re proud to announce that Eric has now joined FC United as a co-owner. Not only that, but he’s also signed up all four of his children and his two brothers too - showing real commitment to the club and everything it represents.
Even more excitingly, Eric has agreed to keep in touch and explore an ongoing relationship with the club. We’ll be continuing the conversation with him in the weeks ahead to see what that might look like.
We also want to take a moment to thank Nick Boom, Tim Worrall, Jules Spencer, Nigel Brookes and James Quinn for their hard work over the past few months in making this event a reality. Their dedication and effort have been instrumental in bringing this special day to life.
Facility hires like this are an important source of income for us, helping to sustain our work on and off the pitch. But every now and then, they also bring about something extra special - and Saturday was one of those moments.
It’s not every day you welcome a footballing legend to Broadhurst Park. But it’s even better when he leaves as a fellow co-owner.
