What can be said about the rollercoaster season that was 2023-24 for FC United's women’s team?
A summer of change after promotion in 2022-23 left the club with only a handful of players to prepare for the upcoming season. It looked like our time back in the Women's National League could be over before it even started.
However, along came Jennie Swarbrick.
While the league season was always going to be a fight for survival, our runs in the cup competitions managed to defy all odds. Within weeks of her arrival, Jennie built a squad capable of competing, and we managed for the first time in our history to qualify for the 2nd Round of the Women's FA Cup.
More cup success followed, with FCUMW reaching the final of the Manchester FA Challenge Cup. In our club's first return to Rochdale AFC's Spotland ground since that magical Bonfire Night in 2010, we beat Mancunian Unity on penalties to become champions of Manchester and continue the fine FCUMW tradition of lifting silverware.
While #TheGreatEscape didn't quite materialise in the league, it was a season of unexpected highs with the knowledge that we have a coach and squad ready to bounce back. We're happy to announce that FCUMW will once again play in the Broadhurst Park stadium for 2024-25 and our season ticket prices will be the same as last year.
