FC Pick Up Point On The Road in Cumbria

Following a victory and a defeat in the first two away games of the season, FC came away from Workington’s Borough Park with a point on Tuesday night following a 0-0 draw.

After the match, manager Mark Beesley’s view was that neither side really did enough to win the game, and that view reflected the balance of play on the night.

The first half was a quiet affair. Early on in the game, Adam Le Fondre went down in the box under a challenge from behind, but the appeal was waved away by the referee.

Just after the mid-point of the half, the hosts had their best chance to that point, with a shot from outside the box, drawing a good save from Dan Atherton at his near post.

Late in the half, FC had a good chance as a cross in saw a Workington defender head the ball straight to Rudy Misambo who was unmarked 12 yards out, but his header fell wide of the post.

Workington had a big chance early in the second half, as a low cross in made it all the way through to the six-yard-box, but Matty Thomson was fortunately covering and got it away for a corner.

The chance of the game came mid-way through the second half and it was for FC. Jay Fitzmartin put in an excellent cross to the back post. It was met on the half-volley by Michael Donohue but his shot was saved by the feet of a sprawling Alex Mitchell.

The visitors had a couple more half chances after that, but it was Workington who came closest to nicking it late on, hitting the outside of the post with a shot from the edge of the area.

In the end, Mark Beesley’s side will reflect on a decent point from a venue that is never an easy midweek trip, and look forward to Saturday’s FA Cup tie with Chadderton.
