Match Report
FC United were beaten in their final pre-season friendly of 2012 going down 2-0 at Trafford FC.Before the game, there was a presentation made to Simon Carden to commemorate his appearances for FC. Once the action was underway, FC had plenty of possession and almost took the lead with Daniel Grimshaw seeing a shot tipped wide. FC went behind on 7 mins when a ball played in Kahmal Wright and he confidently fired the ball into the corner of the net.FC continued to see much of the ball, but clear chances were hard to come by, a freekick into the box was headed wide by Adam Jones and Grimshaw again coming close with a header that was deflected into the keepers hands by a defender. Just after the half hour, Mike Norton looked a good bet to equalise for FC but his shot went wide. The home side were looking vulnerable from crosses in as Norton headed wide on two separate occasions and Matt Wolfenden also putting in a header which was straight at the keeper.Five minutes after the restart, James Spencer was called into action as he was forced to tip a header over the bar. A minute later and the lead was doubled when Spencer could only parry a long shot, Michael Oates being on hand to tap home. This spurred FC back into action and a good move involving Lee Neville found him knocking the ball to Jake Cottrell who saw his shot well saved by the home keeper. The second half saw the usual spate of changes which did seem to disrupt the flow of the game, as it was, and chances were few and far between. Carlos Roca did inject some pace into the game and he saw a couple of crosses fly across the box with no one on the end of them.So it was a disappointing end to the pre-season campaign for FC and a result and performance that Karl Marginson will hope is firmly out of the system.
