YOUNG REDS CRASH OUT OF FA YOUTH CUP AT PRESCOT CABLES
FC United of Manchester’s Youth Team crashed out of the FA Youth Cup at the Second Qualifying Round stage on Wednesday evening following this fiercely-contested 1-3 (after extra time) defeat against Prescot Cables Youth at a rain-sodden Volair Park.
Despite taking an early lead after just 77 seconds through NELSON ONWUSIRI, the Young Reds were unable to consolidate their advantage, and as the game progressed, it was Sulaiman Sajjad who was proving to be the busier of the two goalkeepers.
With the rain teeming down, it was no surprise when the home side grabbed an equaliser on 74 minutes through MATTHEW CORNESS to send the tie into extra time.
FC United’s hopes weren’t enhanced by the dismissal of centre-back Ben Fletcher for a second yellow card on 102 minutes, and Prescot pressed home their advantage when DOMINIC MURPHY headed home to make it 2-1 on 109 minutes.
With the Young Reds desperately pressing forward for a late equaliser to send the match into a penalty shoot-out, the home side broke away in the final 120th minute, as JACK COPELAND was left free to roll the ball into an unguarded net.
