Three in a row as FC United hit four at Liversedge

FC United made it three league wins out of three with a 4-0 victory on the club's first ever visit to Liversedge, courtesy of a Regan Linney hat-trick after Callum Gribbin had broken the deadlock and Wyll Stanway had saved a penalty for the Reds.

The home were coming off the back of two defeats where they had conceded 14 goals, so the Reds travelled in full confidence. However, the opening was a fairly cagey affair, with the only glimpse on goal being a shot by Jack Stockdill that was comfortable for FC United loanee goalkeeper Wyll Stanway.

From that point, The Reds took a hold of the game, Will Russ miskicking after a good run and cross from Regan Linney. The deadlock was broken on 21 minutes when Callum Gribbin was played in, took his time, beat his defenders and calmly rolled the ball past Jordan Porter into the bottom corner.

Five minutes later there was a scare when a Charlie Ennis dummy played in home midfielder Benjamin Atkinson but again Stanway stood firm.

The rest of the half was pretty much one way traffic as FC launched waves of attacks, Linney firing into the side netting after a one-two with Gribbin and full back Jack Deguchy blasting the ball into the car park when unmarked from 12 yards.

The only complaint from a United point of view would be that the score at half time was only 1-0, and this appeared to be borne out as the home side opened the second half with more purpose, Zac Dearnley seeing a shot blocked. At the other end, a sublime piece of skill from Gribbin saw his cross deflected wide.

Dearnley again looked dangerous for Liversedge just before the hour, cutting in and shooting just over the FC crossbar. On 68 minutes, the game looked to have turned as a ball into the box found Joseph Walton. Curtis Jones slid in to tackle and looked to have taken the ball cleanly, but the referee pointed to the spot for a penalty. Atkinson placed the ball on the spot and fired it down the middle, but the ball hit Stanway on the foot and was cleared.

From that point, the game became the Regan Linney show. On 76 minutes, Gribbin played a sumptuous ball into his path, and as the keeper approached, Linney lobbed a shot over his head and into the net. Three minutes later, the lead was extended as Degrouchy played in Linney, who slid the ball into the net. The hat-trick was completed on 84 minutes when a clearance found Linney who curled the ball into the corner of the goal.

A very good nights work for Neil Reynolds and his team and they will be looking to continue the good run of form at home to Marine on Saturday.

Website man of the match: Callum Gribbin. It may seem strange for a hat-trick hero not to win the award, but Gribbin put in 90 minutes of sublime skill and vision, topped off with a goal and an assist.
