Match Report

Luke Griffiths scored an 89th minute penalty as FC United beat title favourites Macclesfield Town 2-1 in front of 2,342 supporters at Broadhurst Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds more than matched their fulltime counterparts and did just enough to snatch victory in an entertaining game. Striker Max Cane broke the deadlock on 19 minutes but former FC United player Alex Curran levelled the contest seven minutes later.

Both teams had several chances to win the match but when rightback Chiekh Thiam was tripped in the area, substitute Griffiths cooly stepped up to seal the victory from the penalty spot. The win means that United are now sixth in the Pitching In Northern Premier League, having won three and lost two so far this season. They now travel to league leaders Radcliffe Borough, who have won all five of their games, on Bank Holiday Monday.
