Match Report
Ossett Town travelled to the Nicholls Campus and left on the wrong end of 7-0 win for the reds. A hat-trick from Frank van Gils accompanied by strikes from Jon Poizer, Lewis Adams, David Kuba Kuba and Josh Smethurst reclaimed top spot after AFC Emley briefly took over having played more games.
FC United were one up in less than 90 seconds Kial Callacher prevented an Ossett clearance going much beyond the half way line, his header found Charlie Doyle who fed Poizer for a 25 yard shot past the Ossett keeper. A run from Justin Johnson half the length of the pitch deserved a better finish from Doyle on five minutes than a shot straight at the Chris Snaith in the Ossett goal.
It was 2-0 after thirteen minutes when Kuba-Kuba crossed to Poizer beyond the far post, he headed down to van Gils to get his first of the day. FC United continued to create chances but it wasn’t until the last five minutes of the half that they added to the score. On 41 minutes Lewis Adams started and finished what was possibly the best move of the day, breaking forward from left back he finished a one-two with Scott Cheetham with a fierce drive. It was possibly matched in power by van Gils in injury time but that was from much closer.
Justin Johnson, providing a constant threat with his pace and ability to go inside the full back or out, had seen a shot turned out by Snaith for a corner. The kick from the right drifted beyond everyone but Johnson recovered possession by the left corner flag. Beating the full back he crossed for Frank to fire over the keepers head and into the roof of the net. The hat trick was complete ten minutes into the second half with another chance provided by Johnson.
Kuba –Kuba made it 6-0 on 74 minutes, substitutes Josh Smethurst and Medi Bakinama had combined to move the ball across the pitch to van Gils who crossed back for David who beat at least two defenders before firing home. Smethurst completed the scoring on 86 minutes from a short corner exchange with Cheetham.
The scoreline does suggest that Ossett were on the back foot for much of the game, which was true, indeed the score-line could have been higher but that isn’t to say they were without ambition. A free kick on 51 minutes brought a fine save from Chris Taylor and midway through the second half had what looked a good claim for a penalty turned down.
December will see two home games for the lads with Hyde visiting on the 14th and Brighouse Town on the 21st for what may prove to be a title showdown. Both games kick off at 11am.
