With FC United of Manchester Youth team’s FA Youth Cup match against Macclesfield Town Youth having had to be cancelled, the Academy ’A’ team instead hosted the Pro Elite Football Academy from Bradford, West Yorkshire, in a friendly match on the Broadhurst Park 3G on Wednesday afternoon, narrowly going down by two goals to nil.
The home side was marginally on top in the first half with Ibere Barumire unlucky to see his shot come back off the crossbar on 17 minutes followed by Inacio Balde shooting just over, on the stroke of half time.
The Young Reds were to rue their first half missed chances when the visitors took the lead within 10 seconds of the second half restart, MAMADI JAWARA running clear before steering the ball wide of substitute FC goalkeeper Filimon Gezae.
Worse was to follow when ABDOU NDOU added a second on 52 minutes.
And it might have been three when Filimon Gezae saved well from the visitors’ No. 9 on 74 minutes.
Two minutes later, FC United’s Yann Daryl somehow managed to blaze over having rounded the visitors’ keeper but that was as near as the Young Reds got to scoring as the Pro Elite Football Academy team held on for a 2-0 win.
