FC United of Manchester’s Youth + Academy ’B’ team exited the Greater Manchester Schools FA Under 18’s County Cup at the First Round stage following this 1-2 home defeat against Ashton Sixth Form College on the Broadhurst Park 3G on Monday afternoon.

After a keenly contested opening period, the visitors opened the scoring after 42 minutes when JOSH LOWE headed home from close range.

The Young Reds grabbed an equaliser less than two minutes later, NELSON ONWUSIRI beating two defenders before finding the back of the net.

CHRIS ALI scored what proved to be the winner for Ashton on 65 minutes when he got the better of the home defence before steering the ball past ’keeper Sulaiman Sajjad.

FC United tried their hardest to force their way back in the closing stages, but Ashton Sixth Form College held out for a deserved win and will host Aquinas College in the next round.
