Match Report
It was another disappointing Saturday at the football for FC United as the Red’s fell to a 1-0 defeat at AFC Telford United in front of a crowd of 1,706.
It was a fairly uneventful first half with neither team looking like they were playing with any confidence. The Bucks had a couple of good chances, Josh Wilson crashing a header against the FC United bar and also seeing David Carnell claw away a shot from goal. Beyond that, there was very little occurring.
The second half did start more brightly, Harry Winter playing a ball over to Jerome Wright, who scuffed a shot wide under a great defensive challenge. On 51 minutes, the crossbar was struck again, this time Tom Greaves rattling a volley against the woodwork.
With 64 minutes on the clock, the home side took the lead when a cross from the left was volleyed in by Connor McCarthy. The goal seemed to spur FC United into action. Dale Johnson was played in but saw his shot saved by James Montgomery.
Carnell was also called into action at the other end when the ball was played into a Sean Williams. The striker appeared well offside but the flag stayed down and his shot produced a fantastic reflex save from Carnell.
Wright was seeing more of the ball in the second half and was looking dangerous. With 11 minutes to go, he saw a goal bound shot saved on the line by Montgomery.
FC United couldn’t find an equaliser and deep into injury time the Red’s misery was compounded when Johnson was given his marching orders for elbowing an opponent.
Yet again, FC failed to beat Telford United and a great improvement is required going into two very tough away games at Kidderminster and Halifax.
Website man of the match - David Carnell. Two great saves which kept the level of defeat down
