At FC United of Manchester, we believe good health is created in communities, not just in healthcare settings. That is why we are part of a new Health Creation initiative, funded by the Manchester Local Care Organisation and supported by Manchester Settlement.

The aim of this work is to help prevent long-term health conditions by supporting people earlier, reducing isolation, and creating more opportunities for people to look after their health in ways that feel accessible and welcoming.

We are working with four local organisations, each focusing on a different part of community health:

NEPHRA

The Nephra Project is a community-led initiative supporting the prevention and management of hypertension and cardiovascular disease in North Manchester. Through inclusive yoga and gentle physical activity, education around healthy eating, and regular social sessions, the project brings residents together in welcoming spaces that encourage connection, learning, and long-term healthy lifestyle changes. The programme empowers participants to improve heart health while reducing isolation and strengthening community wellbeing.

Easy Come, Easy Grow MCR - Grow with us

Easy Come, Easy Grow is a health creation project supporting adults who are parents of children with SEN, recognising the increased stress and barriers they face in maintaining their own health. The programme uses mindful gardening sessions and food growing as gentle, accessible activities to promote physical movement, stress reduction, and social connection. By embedding mindfulness, relaxation, and heart‑healthy behaviours into gardening, the project aims to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease while empowering parents to reconnect with their wellbeing in a supportive community environment.

North Manchester Menopause Peer Support Group - Renewal Years

The Renewal Years project is a 12‑week, community‑based programme designed to support women who are experiencing or have gone through menopause, with a specific focus on reducing the long‑term risk of cardiovascular disease. Through progressive strength training, menopause‑specific education and peer support, the project addresses key risk factors associated with menopause‑related hormonal changes, including high blood pressure, poor blood‑sugar control and reduced physical capacity. Delivered in a trusted local setting, Renewal Years empowers women to build sustainable health habits, improve heart health outcomes and develop the confidence to manage long‑term conditions beyond the programme.

Morrisso Health

The Men’s Cardiovascular Project is a football‑led health programme delivered in partnership with FC United of Manchester and Morrisso Health, designed to help men take control of their heart health in a relaxed, social setting. Using matchdays and club facilities as the starting point, the project offers free health checks, practical support to improve fitness, and a 12‑week small‑group exercise programme focused on cardiovascular health. More than just exercise, the programme creates a welcoming space for men to connect, share experiences, and build confidence around their health—breaking down barriers that often stop men from engaging with traditional health services.
