The summer holidays may be over but it’s time for the Development Fund Holiday Draw again at FC. There are only 38 of the 250 places left on this year’s Holiday Draw and closing date is 30th September 2010, so join up quick! It’s only a tenner a month and each month you can win a £1,000 holiday, with the big prize at the end of the year being a £5,000 holiday. You’ve got a great chance to win and all proceeds go to the DF to help us towards our new home in Newton Heath.

28.08.10 DF Barrels for Retford

FCs first saturday home game of the season against Retford saw a further £766 put into the DF barrels. That brings the total to a fantastic £1611 after just two games and us a few steps closer to Newton Heath! Thanks for your continued support.

Holiday Draw £5,000 Winner!

FC’s long serving centreback and captain, David Chadwick was drafted in to pick the winner of the final Co-opTravel Holiday draw prize of 2009/10. The prize being a very useful £5,000 of holiday vouchers to be used over the next 12 months. The lucky Holiday draw Winner was Stella Lea. Stella’s first reaction was “I never win anything – it can’t be me!” but thanks to Chaddy she has won this year’s top prize and can look forward to a very special holiday over the next year. We hope to make a presentation to her at a forthcoming home game. … that you have about £2 in your house and car in one and two pennies. It’s sat in a draw or in the ashtray of your car. You’ll never do anything with it because it’s not worth driving to the bank or supermarket to change it. You don’t want to carry it around and even if you did you don’t really want to stand in shops counting it out. We know you, you’re not cruel enough to make our ‘Pound for the Ground’ volunteers lug it around all afternoon. But you could gather it all up, stick it in a bag and drop it in the Development Fund barrels before tomorrow’s game against Retford at Gigg Lane. Yes, you’ll have that horrible metallic smell on your hands for a day or so but think about all the room you’ll be creating in your house or car and, more importantly than that, think about our very own football ground being built in Newton Heath. If you can, help us get there. The barrels are situated around Gigg Lane at every home game. Cheers.

£5k Holiday Draw this Saturday

Good luck to Everyone for the £5k draw on Saturday!

The Twelfth and final £5,000 draw of 2009/10 will take place at our Home game with Retford on Saturday 28th August.

We are planning to continue the draw this coming season so if you have not taken part in the past and would like to get involved from September onward please e-mail dfd@fc-utd.co.uk with your name, address, and phone number. You will receive joining instructions by return.

Would current draw members please also e-mail dfd@fc-utd.co.uk to confirm their intention to continue and update their e-mail, phone number, and address. If you are lucky enough to win the £5,000 it would be good to be able to contact you!! Currently 20% of holiday draw members have incomplete or no contacts listed.

The draw has been well supported in the last two years, but everyone is aware that we have to step up the rate of contributions to the DF with our stadium plans developing so quickly. The Holiday Draw has already raised well over £20k since it started and an additional 50 entries this year would equate to an extra £6k (£16k total). Every penny of every new entry goes to the DF – so no excuses.

Setting up your £10 monthly payment on line requires very little time and effort, the prizes are certainly worth winning, the odds are good relative to other draws of a similar nature, and everyone can use a holiday or Euro away.

Talk to friends, workmates, family, etc and see if they fancy a dabble – all they have to do is send an e-mail for details.

Stuart Dykes

Mansfield-born Stuart Dykes moved to Germany in 1987 and has been a season-ticket holder at FC Schalke 04 for over 20 years. He has been active in supporter politics for more years than he cares to remember, especially in the field of anti-racism, but also in a wide variety of campaigns on a German and European level. Stuart was a founder member of FC United and attends games whenever the finances allow it.

‘Although supporter ownership is the norm in Germany, the current system is under attack from forces wishing to give private investors a bigger say in how football is run. Lots of Schalke supporters are familiar with the FC United story. For them FC is a tremendous example of fans taking control of their own destiny and a timely reminder of how important it is for German supporters to fight to protect and improve the status quo over here. I’m extremely honoured to be asked to be a patron of the Development Fund and delighted to accept.’

Timeshare in Newton Heath anyone?

The June and July FC United Development Fund Holiday draws took place at last week’s game at Ramsbottom. The draws were made by the Ramsbottom Club Secretary, Malc Holt and Ramsbottom committee member Tony Cunningham. Our thanks to them for providing independent scrutiny and ensuring fair play.
The July winner was Stuart Forrest who has been in the draw since the start – so well done to him. Stuart pockets the usual £1,000 in holiday vouchers from CO-OP travel.

Our June winner has made the magnanimous gesture of donating the £1,000 prize back to the Development Fund and has also asked to remain anonymous – saying

“I look on this as investing in a timeshare in Newton Heath rather than missing out on a holiday now!!”

This, more than anything, sums up the ethos of our club and the commitment and generosity of its fans and members.
