End of Year Academy Game Ends All Square

Sunday saw the final Academy game of the season take place on the main pitch. A battle of the bragging rights saw the 1st Years take on the 2nd Years in what was their final game of the footballing season. Broadhurst Park opened its doors and welcomed in a crowd of family, friends and supporters to cheer on the students in their last run out of the year.

Arlo Buller fired the 1st Years into an early 1-0 lead and they went on to dominate proceedings before doubling their advantage, again courtesy of Buller.  An end-to-end game ensured an exciting contest was taking place in front of the 150 spectators in attendance; with the 2nd Years piling on the pressure in an attempt to half the deficit.

They were soon rewarded and pulled it back to 2-1, with a controversial goal that was given despite the outrage of the 1st Years who claimed a foul had been committed against their goalkeeper. The 2nd Years now had the wind in their sails and were pressing late into the game, hitting the same post 3 times, on what seemingly was not going to be their day. That was until a combative challenge in the 1st Years penalty box, which resulted in a penalty being awarded; swiftly despatched by Alex Canning to spare the 2nd Years’ blushes.

The final score of 2-2 ended what was a very enjoyable day for those playing and in the stands, and an end of year picture was taken to finish what was a lovely day all round.
