Match Report
One of the joys of following the youth team is in the interesting variety of places you can find a football pitch. Today the young reds took on Cleavley in the shadow of the slip road from the M60 to the M602 in the Manchester FA County Cup. Their Timperley League opponents put up a resolute and organised challenge but were ultimately dismissed, if a little harshly by the 5-0 score line. The home team were restricted to half chances, but were unlucky not to score with a sweeping move midway through the first half when a shooting opportunity was squandered with a shot wide when the target seemed easier to hit.
However once FC had taken the lead in the 37th minute the result was not seriously in doubt. Lee Hill broke clear of the defence and found himself with only the keeper to beat. Chris Stimson in the home goal managed to force him wide and seemingly deal with the threat but a shot from a tight angle managed to find its way across the goal and in at the far post.
The second goal came just after the hour as Carl Fitton gained possession wide left on the half way line. He was able to drive forward before crossing for Dylan Moloney whose control, turn and shot found its way into the bottom corner.
The reds kept up a high tempo and created chances, hitting the frame of the goal twice and several players going close before punishing a tiring home side with three goals in the last ten minutes. Substitute, James Green got the first of a brace when, having caught a defender in possession, he drove forward and shot home from the edge of the box.
Dylan Moloney got his second in the 88th minute as Gage Eme and Ryan Lyons were exploiting the space that was appearing down the right wing. The cross and shot found the top corner despite the keepers best efforts and in injury time a Ryan Lyons cross found its way to James Green. His first shot was blocked, but was first to react by firing home the rebound.
