Friendlies Update

Friendlies update

Now that we’ve announced some more friendlies, including two on the same weekend (21-22 July) we’d like expand on the earlier story, which explained the factors taken into consideration for planning friendlies (Link to pre-announcement).

We were asked to play at both Kidderminster Harriers and Blackpool Mechanics and we’re pleased we have been able to accept both invites.

Kidderminster are a Conference team and were FA Trophy finalists this year, so the game should be a tremendous test of our team’s ability.

Blackpool Mechanics are sponsored by northerncare, who provide residential children’s homes and are members of our 127 club. We have agreed to send a squad to play against Blackpool Mechanics as part of a Fun Day for children from the northerncare homes.

The decision was taken to play these games on Saturday and Sunday, rather than on the same day, because we felt some supporters would like to attend both games. We need a full programme of games to sharpen the fitness of all players in our First, Reserve and Youth team squads, so there may be occasions where friendly games clash directly, or are not open for supporters to attend. We will try to keep this to a minimum.

We would be delighted if supporters can attend all our friendlies, but we understand that it may be too many games for some. In order to help you make decisions if you have to select games, we will try to give as much background information as possible. For example, our club funds will benefit from the gate money against Kidderminster and AFC Wimbledon, because they have both agreed to share the profits. We’ve negotiated this for most of our friendlies, as we know it’s our loyal support who swell the gates of many teams we play. On the other hand, we have agreed to play two charity games against Blackpool Mechanics to benefit the northerncare children and against Studley for the Jimmy Davis Memorial Cup. For those games we will receive expenses only.

There will be further announcements of friendlies as and when they are confirmed.
