Dutch FC fans play for kids

FC United regularly receive requests for support of charitable causes and we are always glad to respond and requests are not just restricted to the UK.

The FC Supporters in Amsterdam are regular visitors to matches over here so when they got in touch about a charity tournament they wished to enter we were glad to offer some help, here is a brief report of how the event not only helped the charitable cause but helped spread the word about FC in Holland too.

In December one of Amsterdam’s 7 hospitals held a fundraising indoor football tournament so the pediatric ward could get a playroom to make the kids forget about their illness for a while. As I work in that hospital I was more than happy to form a team and participate in the tourney. FC were so kind to lend us some football kits so our team looked the part on this special occasion.

So on a cold December morning 10 teams gathered in a hall on one of Amsterdam’s canals to make the tournament a big success. Everyone really enjoyed playing football and the beer afterwards. The spectators who were there in big numbers made for a great crack. We got a lot of questions about our kits and thus about FC. And the main goal of the day was achieved: we got enough money for the playroom.

All in all a day that made me proud; proud to participate in helping ill kids and proud to wear the badge.

So a big thank you to FC United!
