New Board member for FC United of Manchester

New Board member for FC United of ManchesterFC United of Manchester is strengthening its Board with the appointment of Dennis Shannon, under Club rule 70.

The Club currently has three Board vacancies. Dennis takes up the post at the 29th January club board meeting and will serve until the 2020 AGM, at which point under the rules he must stand down (but can stand for election if he wishes).

A founder member of FC United who attends home and away on a regular basis, Dennis has worked in leisure facilities for the past 30 years and as a manager of leisure facilities for the past 25. He is currently Facility Manager of Withington Baths and Leisure Centre, a community run charity in South Manchester, and sits on the Board of Trustees for the baths. Dennis has been part of the team that has helped turn a loss-making business into one which now turns over a regular surplus.

The team is looking at improving and developing the facilities into offering a long-term, sustainable hub for the local community as well as improving the health, fitness and well-being of residents.

Dennis said: “I have plenty of experience in the operational side of managing leisure facilities and hopefully this will be something which I can use to help develop the overall use of the facilities at BP to increase usage and revenue,” said Dennis, who has a degree in Business Management and Administration with Physical Education.

My aim as a Board member will be to support and continue the excellent work already carried out by Adrian and Sam, and to use my experience in leisure and on the board in my current role to help in the decision-making process and strategic long-term plan for the Club that means so much to me.”

Could you step forward too?
As ever, the Club would welcome other members in stepping forward if they have the sort of skills and experience that would benefit the Club – we could potentially bring another two members onto the Board under rule 70. We have previously published the skills and experience that would be useful for a Board member – and these are available on the Members’ Forum.

Our current Board members, Adrian Seddon and Sam Mullock, are happy to speak to any members who would like more information. In addition, they’d be happy to arrange some shadowing opportunities for anyone with the required skills who’d like to understand more about what’s required before making a commitment.
