New Member of the Coaching Staff: Matty Clarkson

Manager Neil Reynolds is constantly looking to improve the his staff, not only on the playing side, but also on the coaching side. To this end he has formally invited Matty Clarkson to join the backroom setup on a voluntary basis. You may have seen him around on the occasional matchday but he recently resigned from his role managing a non-league side to focus on FC.

Matty also played non-league football for Bamber Bridge, Padiham and Runcorn, but to many he is better known from his professional career as a light heavyweight boxer, turning professional in 2011 and winning the light heavyweight central area title in 2013, then challenged for the light heavyweight English and British title in 2014. He also fought internationally in places as far afield as South Africa, before retiring through injury in 2018.

It’s from this background of preparation for big challenges, and as a role model, that Matty will be drawing on to help prepare the mindset for the team, both on a group and an individual level. As anyone who’s boxed will tell you, it’s not the size of the dog in the fight that matters, it’s the size of the fight in the dog, and Matty will be working on reinforcing the winning mentality that Reno has brought to FC.

Welcome to FC Matty
