FC United beat Lancaster City with stoppage time winner

FC United took all three points in a dramatic finish scoring a 94th minute winner against Lancaster City.

Lancaster almost took the lead on two minutes when David Norris headed wide. On five minutes Tunde Owolabi took advantage of a poor back pass but was upended by Sam Ashton, the referee taking no hesitation in pointing to the spot.

Paul Ennis made no mistake to give FC the lead. Almost from the restart FC attacked again, Regan Linney found Ennis who deftly finished into the far post to extend the lead.

The Dolly Blues were certainly in the game, ex FC forward Nialle Rodney seeing a shot cleared from the line by Chris Doyle. Just before the half hour there was a controversial moment when Owolabi took on Ben Hudson. The Lancaster full back seemed to catch the FC forward with an elbow, the referee deeming it a yellow card only.

The second half started in the same vein as the first, Charlie Bailey forcing a save from Cameron Belford. On 54 minutes, FC United had the ball in the net for a third time, Ennis forcing a save from Ashton, the rebound being put in by an offside Owolabi. Just after the hour mark Owolabi was played clear, he tried to round Ashton only for the ex FC custodian to recover well to push wide.

With six minutes left, Lancaster pulled a goal back when a cross was tapped in by Robert Wilson. A minute later, Alex Curran looked to have made the points safe when played in but his shot hit the post and rolled wide. Sixty seconds later, the score was 2-2 when a cross was headed in by Rodney.

It looked for all the world that FC United would have to settle for a point but a cross from Jack Lenehan in the 94th minute saw Doyle head home at the far post to score the winning goal and send Broadhurst Park into delirium.
