Following the transfer of Kurt Willoughby to AFC Fylde, we were not able to reach agreement with them on the compensation fee due to FC United. As a result the matter went before a tribunal hearing on Monday 28th October at Wembley Stadium, which FC United Operations Manager Paul Smith attended, and the process of determining the fee due to FC United is now complete.
As an U23 player, the club was entitled to a compensation fee given the significant coaching and support which the club had provided to Kurt, to develop his game and overall fitness while he was with us.
During his time at FC United, Kurt made 43 competitive appearances, scoring 20 goals, an average rate of a goal per two games played, which made him an integral part of the team. This level of performance also meant that he attracted the attention of the England ’C’ team selectors and became a regular part of that set-up. His goal against Wales ’C’ at Salford’s stadium in front of many FC supporters and our first team squad, who had been given a night off from training to cheer him on, was one of the highlights of last season.
FC United is committed to finding and developing talent to fulfill its potential, and would like to thank Kurt for his time at FC United, and wish him every success with his continuing career.
