FC United travel to Boston United in search of vital points

FC United travel to Boston United in search of vital pointsFC United travel to Lincolnshire to face midtable Boston United on Saturday, hoping that we can pick up three points and take a step towards moving out of the Vanarama National League North relegation zone.

With no heavy snow currently forecasted on Friday or Saturday in Boston, the game should go ahead but please do check our social media channels for the latest news before travelling.

A victory could see the Red close the gap between them and safety to just three points with 13 games remaining. However, a defeat could see them slip further behind fellow strugglers Ashton United, York City, Hereford and Guiseley.

Manager Neil Reynolds returns to the dugout after a pre-booked work trip to Singapore for the Department of Education. He will be hoping his side can repeat last week’s performance but pick up some vital points in the process.

FC United performed valiantly in our last game against Stockport County but fell short in a 2-1 defeat, where Kurt Willoughby took his tally for the season to 12 by opening the scoring. A priceless point was snatched away when County scored an 88th minute winner but we have to pick our heads up and carry on.

That defeat at home to Stockport marked the ninth league defeat at Broadhurst Park for the Reds this season but again we can take some solace going into this game knowing that our away record is far better than our home record.

The Reds have picked up 17 points away from home from a total of 24 accumulated so far this season, having seen their only back-to-back league victories of the season coming on the road at Blyth Spartans and Hereford.

Reno’s Reds have picked up some big wins away from home this season which had given us a much-needed lift at the time. Points were taken away from the likes of Bradford Park Avenue and Kidderminster Harriers, so it shows that on our day we can certainly take points away from sides ahead of us which could be proven vital come the end of the season.

As for Saturday’s hosts, they are currently in 11th place, four points off the play-off positions after 28 games played with 38 points, having finished ninth last season. The Pilgrims come into this game having picked up seven points from a possible 15 in their last five games in the league with two wins, one draw and two defeats.

Just like FC, Boston have accumulated more points away from home in the league this season. The Pilgrims have picked up 17 points at home from their total of 38. They have just one win in their last five home games, 2-0 against York City on 8th December. In their last game, Boston suffered a 1-0 defeat at third placed Spennymoor Town.

Saturday’s game is at York Street, Boston with a traditional, and supporter friendly kick-off time of three o’clock. Get yourself to that football ground. Bring on United.
