MATCH PREVIEW: FC United v Chorley

MATCH PREVIEW: FC United v Chorley We are back at home in the league for the first time since the 2-0 win against Curzon Ashton, as we entertain high flying Chorley hoping to get all three points in the traditional festive boxing day fixture.

We come into this game having picked up a very hard-fought point on the road at Leamington in a 2-2 draw where arguably we could have perhaps won the game. Goals from Josh Wallen and Kurt Willoughby aided FC’s cause in the game at New Windmill Road.

That draw at Leamington leaves us three points above the relegation zone with 20th place Hereford having played a game less than the reds but a win for FC could see us move into 15th but we will have to depend on results elsewhere.

Our home form this season has been somewhat disappointing having only picked up seven points from a possible 30 available to us at Broadhurst but the previous home win against Curzon Ashton, which was our first win at home this season in the league could provide a confidence boost.

In our last five home games in the league, we have won once, drawn once and lost twice.

As for our opponents Chorley, they have enjoyed a great first half of the season, as we enter the Christmas fixtures. The Magpies are currently sat in 2nd place having built a solid defensive foundation having only conceded 19 goals in 20 games.

In their last game, they conceded top spot to Bradford PA after losing 4-2 at home to Blyth Spartans, however Chorley do have a game in hand over Bradford PA as they currently sit three points off first place.

The top scorer for Chorley this season in the league has been striker Josh Wilson. The cousin of current Fleetwood Town Manager Joey Barton currently has six goals to his name having scored six goals, averaging a goal every 155 minutes having played 955 minutes in the league this season.
