Help FC give something back this Christmas

Help FC give something back this ChristmasAs the festive period approaches FC United will once again be running a number of initiatives to make life a bit better for those in desperate circumstances.

Our Annual Big Coat Day will be expanded to include collections before all first team home games from now until 5 January 2019. We are also resurrecting our Toy Story campaign and will be opening up Broadhurst Park to vulnerable families on Christmas Day for this year’s Christmas Comforts project.

Big Coat Day(s)

FC United held its first Big Coat Day in our inaugural season and we have run it every season since.

We are looking to collect warm winter clothing for homeless which will be distributed via several organisations and charities dedicated to helping those affected in the Manchester Area.

This year’s Big Coat Day will take place on 5 January at our home match against Chester FC but we will be collecting at all Saturday home games up to that date.

We are looking to collect both male and female clothes and all we ask is they are in good condition and are suitable for the circumstances. These vital contributions will help us make up packs to also include toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, food and soft drinks.

• Warm clothing (Big Coats, jumpers, fleeces etc.)
• Sturdy shoes / trainers
• Gloves, Hats, Scarfs, Belts
• Hiking gear (waterproofs, base layer, etc)
• Rucksacks, Backpacks, Sleeping Bags
• NEW* Underwear, Socks, Thermals
*We cannot accept used underwear & socks

Toy Story

We are collecting toys as part of our Toy Story initiative, right up until Christmas Eve. You can bring toys to the match on Saturday 15th December or between 9am-5pm Monday to Friday’s.

All types of toy are welcome; cuddly toys, jigsaws, games, educational toys and children’s books. All we ask is that they are new or in ‘as new’ condition (no jigsaws with pieces missing, games without instructions, tatty boxes) and are suitable for children of any age up to 16 year olds.

Christmas Comforts

This year our Christmas Comforts project will have a slightly different focus than in previous years in that we will be opening up Broadhurst Park to families in sheltered accommodation. We will be providing a hot Christmas dinner, along with gifts (from Toy Story) for the children and we will be running activities and games.

Once again we are looking for volunteers to lend a hand on Christmas Day or help out with the preparation on 23 and 24 December (room prep and decoration, present sorting and wrapping etc.

If you are able to help out please contact Vinny at vinny.thompson@fc-utd.net stating which day you are available.

Also if anyone has experience of Children’s entertainment or knows of anyone who has who would be available please get in touch.

Dates for Toy Story / Big Coat Day:

At Broadhurst Park between 12:00 – 14:45 on following Saturdays (All first team home games)

• 17 November 2018 Toy Story / Big Coat
• 08 December 2018 Toy Story / Big Coat
• 26 December 2018 Big Coat
